We start our tour in the new Südstadt district on the Campbell site. We then head to Bahnstadt and the Neckar, which we cross via one of the four bridges. we are now on the northern bank of the river and continue cycling along the district “Im Neuenheimer Feld” which features the uni campus and several hospitals. Afterwards we’ll pass the noble and quite posh Neuenheim with its beautiful parklike area “Neckarwiese”.
Heading east, we will get closer to the Old Bridge and can take in the spectacular view of the castle on the opposite side of the river valley. The path across the bridge leads us right into the heart of the old town. We’ll see the church of the holy spirit (Heiliggeistkirche), more parts of the university and the pedestrianised high street with its world famous flair.
We will now leave the old town and continue to Heidelberg’s 19th century Gründerzeit quarter Weststadt which also features the mountain cemetery or Bergfriedhof. From there, the route leads back through the old and new Südstadt districts
We are now back at the starting point on the Campbell site, where our tour ends.
